How do we accept? How do we reach for understanding? How do we get past the slaughter of innocent children, a beloved elementary school principal, the school psychologist at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut? How can those distraught teachers and parents talk to their own surviving children in the depths of such heartrending tragedy?
Some years ago in Odessa, Texas, children were losing parents to the Iraq war. The loss then felt like abandonment, and it was hard for the children to understand. Then, in 2008, three Odessa policemen, fathers themselves, were ambushed and ruthlessly killed. Cynthia Clack, an Odessa trial attorney, felt the pain of the children and began writing the Doodles series.
Doodles is a teacup poodle who gets involved in various machinations that children can relate to, but always in the process of overcoming obstacles teaches a valid principle of life. Doodles is a character that strengthens and supports the concerns of children on the same level that a child thinks and feels.
Doodles The American Hero was the first story in the series.
Perhaps Doodles could offer some comfort to the children of Sandy Hook Elementary. A puppy’s love can be soothing in time of sorrow.
To be published and hopefully coming soon are: Doodles The American Poodle. Doodles The American Celebrity. Doodles The Entrepreneur. Doodles The American Philanthropist.
Each book teaches a different, underlying life principle in the context of an intriguing story.
In today’s blog, I had not planned on presenting Doodles to you but to tell of the creativity of Cynthia Clack, author of a rock opera, “Eye of the Tiger,” and founder of Tiger Tale Publishing Company. That will have to come in a future blog. It is all quite creative and interesting.
For now, as we grieve together in the horrible loss of innocent children, as our hearts go out to each father, mother, husband or wife in Newtown, I thought of Cynthia’s compassion for children, and perhaps what Doodles would say to these young survivors to give them strength, understanding and love.
